The Aledo Ladycats began their quest for a third consecutive trip to the state tournament with a 3-1 road victory over Waxahachie Monday, Feb. 13.
The Ladycats are ranked No. 5 in the state in Class 5A by the Texas Girls Coaches Association. Last season they dropped an extra-inning heartbreaker in the state semifinals after reaching the title game in 2021.
Brenzee Gonzales paced the Ladycats against Waxahachie with a 3-for-3 performance at the plate. This included a double, triple, RBI and a stolen base.
Addie Perry (triple) and Texas Ray (double) also had extra-base hits.
Natalie Touchet got the pitching victory with a save from Gonzales. Touchet struck out 13 over six and a third innings, while Gonzales did not allow a baserunner in two-thirds of an inning.
The Ladycats are competing in the Forney Tournament Thursday-Saturday, Feb. 16-18.
