After an hour heat delay, the Aledo Racquetcats tennis team took on the Granbury Pirates in the District 5-5A opener on Aug. 22 in Granbury. Aledo walked away with a victory of 19-0 and even won five extra matches.
Scores were:
Boys doubles: Line 1, Craig and Scott Mason, 6-1, 6-4; Line 2, Jacob Heckathorn and Francois Britz, 6-0, 6-0; and Line 3, Will Beyer and Tom Ruminsky, 6-0, 6-1.
Girls doubles: Line 1, Bryanna Orr and Kenley Germany, 6-1, 6-0, Line 2, Elli Kate Bussmeir and Patrice Loftin, 6-0, 6-1; and Line 3, Eleanor Jack and Sydney Byrd, 6-0, 6-1.
Mixed doubles: Benjamin Farmer and Lila Satterfield, won their first set 6-0, then lost their second set 6-7, in a 3-7 tiebreak. They fought back to win the match tiebreaker 10-7.
Boys singles: Line 1, C. Mason, 6-0, 7-5; Line 2, Farmer, 8-1; Line 3, S. Mason, 6-3, 6-1; Line 5, Heckathorn, 8-5; and Line 6, Ruminsky, 6-0, 6-1. Line 4, Beyer, battled back from a 6-7 loss in the first set (tiebreak 4-7) to win the second set 7-5 and the match tiebreak 10-4.
Girls singles: Line 1, Orr, 8-2; Line 2, Germany, 6-2, 6-1; Line 3, Bussmeir, 6-0, 6-0; Line 4, Satterfield, 8-0; Line 5, Gracie Heydman, 8-2; and Line 6, Byrd, 6-0, 6-1.
Extra matches were played in mixed doubles and boys/girls singles. Brennan Holbrook and Natalie Nawrocki prevailed in mixed, 6-3, 6-0. Boys Line 7, Ben Kurth, won 6-2; and Line 8, Paxton Psencik, won 8-0.
Girls Line 7, Jack, won 8-0; and Line 8, Nawrocki, won 6-0.
The Racquetcats were hosting Azle at press time and travel to Brewer, Tuesday, Sept. 5 at 4 p.m.
