Ladycats win Arlington Classic

Aledo’s Todd named MVP, Lowe named to all-tournament team

After suffering a heartbreaking loss at home to Midlothian in five sets, the Aledo Ladycats volleyball team showed up in a big way in the Arlington Classic. The Ladycats won each match they competed in, dropping a total of three games across four matches to capture the championship.

Aledo junior outside hitter Alyssa Todd had 85 kills to take home tournament MVP honors while senior middle Haley Lowe, who registered 36 kills and 19 blocks, was selected to the all-tournament team.

The Ladycats (15-7) opened up the tournament action with a five-game affair against the Richardson J.J. Peace Lady Mustangs. Aledo lost two of the first three games, but rallied to win the last two to establish rhythm moving forward while also exorcising demons from their latest five-game defeat to Midlothian. Against Pearce, Aledo won by a final score of 25-22, 25-27, 19-25, 25-10 and 15-12.

After that, Aledo took down Amarillo in four games by a final score of 25-21, 23-25, 25-21 and 25-19. On Day Two, Aledo recorded sweeps over Burleson (25-15, 25-14 and 25-18) and Martin (25-15, 25-19 and 25-23) to secure the title.

Across their four matches, Todd compiled 71 digs, seven blocks and four service aces to go with her team-leading 85 kills. Meanwhile, senior middle Kinley Elms tallied 49 kills and 12 blocks while Ella Meador registered 61 digs and four aces. Senior defender Kenrie Pruitt added 57 digs and a team-high six aces while setters Ava Reding and Sophie Frank each tallied 81 assists while combining for 85 digs. Senior middle Ella Isbell chipped in with 13 blocks while Ali LoBaugh had eight stuffs.
