Ladycats shine in Katy Tournament

Aledo finishes in third, Elms named to all-tourney team

Following their impressive home-opening win over Legacy Christian to start the season, the Aledo Ladycats volleyball team traveled south to Katy to compete in the Katy ISD-Cy Fair Volleyball Tournament over the Aug. 17 weekend.

Among the crowded field of strong teams, the Ladycats (7-2 overall) won six of eight matches in the tournament.

Aledo captured third place by defeating The Woodlands College Park in three sets (23-25, 25-23 and 25-19). In that match, junior outside hitter Alyssa Todd led the way with 16 kills while senior middle Kinley Elms, who was named to the all-tournament team, had 15 kills.

Todd also had a team-high 19 digs, while senior setter Ava Reding registered 23 assists and 17 digs. Senior middle Hailey Lowe led the frontline defense with five blocks while Elms, Todd, and Lily Lufkin recorded two blocks apiece.

In pool play, the Ladycats finished with a 3-0 overall record notching wins over Houston Cypress Creek (25-22 and 25-7), Magnolia (25-13 and 25-17), and Cedar Park (25-19 and 25-15). Aledo went 2-1 on the second day of the tournament, earning wins over Katy (25-20 and 25-19) and Houston Langham Creek (25-19 and 25-18) before falling to Houston Cypress Ranch in straight sets (23-25 and 18-25). The Ladycats then fell to Cypress Bridgeland (14-25 and 21-25) before taking down College Park.

In eight total tournament games, Elms led the way with 62 kills, 10 digs, and 13 blocks while Todd tallied 70 kills, 73 digs and nine aces. Lowe finished the tournament with 26 kills, 11 digs and 14 total blocks while Tatum Kosse recorded 30 kills and 21 digs. Senior libero Kenrie Pruitt led the backline defense with 83 total digs over the tournament, along with 15 assists and four aces. Ella Meador contributed with 64 digs, while Reding racked up 106 assists and 56 digs.

The Ladycats are playing in the Northwest ISD Volleyball Classic this weekend.
