Vanguard Prep breaks ground in Aledo

Bailey Ranch Road might deserve the nickname “Education Parkway” with Vanguard Preparatory School joining the quarter-mile stretch already accommodating Aledo High School, Aledo ISD Learning Center, Daniel Ninth Grade Campus, Reading Friends, and The PREP School of Bailey Ranch.

Members of Vanguard Prep were joined Jan. 31 by staff members of Aledo ISD, the City of Aledo, and Menta Education Group for a groundbreaking ceremony directly across the street from the Aledo ISD office.

Targeted for completion in August 2025, the private therapeutic school will provide individualized programs for students K-5 with academic, social, emotional, and behavioral differences. Vanguard has provided education in north Texas since 1993 and later partnered with Menta Education Group to become a premier non-profit school.

Luci Luemann joined Vanguard as president in 2022 and helped coordinate the groundbreaking event, greeting Aledo ISD staff as they walked across the street to the future school’s location.

“We’ve been meeting with Aledo and getting their input. We want to be a good community neighbor,” Luemann said. “We are so excited about serving the community and are thrilled with the turn out and support at the event.”

Aledo Mayor Nick Stanley spoke about the tremendous growth the city has experienced and the need for specialized education in the area.

“I want to welcome all the Vanguard folks. I think you will be amazingly successful,” the mayor added. “This will make sure we are giving every opportunity to every child to have a quality education.”

Patti Pickering, Vanguard Head of School, described how difficult finding a location in the fast-growing Aledo area was until Fred Disney, business developer and president of Westbrook Companies, came to their aid. Disney, the Bailey family, and Vanguard came to the conclusion of the new location and the Bailey family donated seven of the 10 acres for the new campus.

Other administrators at the campus will be principal Logan Spiddle, lead therapist Marissa Ozuna, Menta CEO Dr. Rory Conran, Menta CFO Brian McGowan, strategic growth manager Luci Neumann, and clinical coordinator Janette Warne.
