Powerlifting: Area lifters advance to state

Aledo, Weatherford well-represented

Parker County will be well-represented among the girls and boys at this year's State Powerlifting Meets.

The girls are competing this weekend, March 15, at the Bert Ogden Arena in Edinburg, while the boys will lift March 22 at the Taylor County Expo Center in Abilene.

Lifters qualified for state by finishing first or second in their weight class or by lifting a state qualifying total in their division.

 

Girls

Aledo's Bryanna Orr and Ari Mathias will represent the Ladycats after winning their weight classes at the Class 5A Region 6 Meet in Sherman on Feb. 27. Orr lifted 675 pounds to win the 132-pound weight class and Mathias lifted 865 to top the field in the 148 division.

Seven members of the Weatherford Lady Roos will compete in Class 6A after their Region 6 results in Prosper on Feb. 25, which include:

  • 97: 1. Zoe Todd, 565.
  • 105: 2. Lauren Schweiss, 675; 4. Maddie Seago, 625.
  • 114: 5. Khala Kuehler, 675.
  • 148: 4. Reagan Hunt, 835; 5. Ella Jester, 820.
  • 220: 4. Amanda Barcenas, 900.

As a team, the Lady Roos were third in their regional meet with 23 points.

 

Boys

The area boys held their regional meet on March 6. Aledo qualified three lifters for state from the 5A Region I Division I Meet at Abilene Wylie High School, and Weatherford qualified two from that same meet.

Advancing from Aledo were:

  • 220: 6. Chase Wilburn, 1,470.
  • 242: 8. Anthony Flowers, 1,500.
  • 275: 8. Kruger Summers, 1,610.

Omari Din-Mbuh also qualified for regionals, finishing ninth in the 308 division and narrowly missing state with 1,435 pounds lifted.

The Kangaroos will have Talan Tart, third in the 275 weight class with 1,645 pounds lifted, along with Ryan Ekberg, who placed fifth in the 148 division with 1,250 lifted.

Also for Weatherford, Preston Clark placed 11th in the 220 division after lifting 1,370 pounds.
